On March 7, 2023, in the Syrian Arab Republic, Bagrat Khutaba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the SAR, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, Faisal Mekdad.

A wide range of issues of interstate cooperation was discussed at the meeting.

Bagrat Khutaba noted that this year it is planned to hold the II Abkhaz-Syrian Committee, which will include issues of cooperation in the following areas: economy, science, culture, education.

In turn, Faisal Mekdad expressed support for the maximum assistance from the SAR.

In continuation of the meeting, the parties discussed issues of interagency cooperation between the Ministries of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as the customs committees of the two states.
