The Russian Foreign Ministry held consultations ahead of the next round of the Geneva Discussions

On March 30, Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation met with Irakli Tuzhba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia at the Russian Foreign Ministry. From the Abkhaz side Alkhas Kvitsinia, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation also attended the meeting.

In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed the agenda of the next round of the International Geneva Discussions, which will take place on 4-5 April 2023.

The meeting reaffirmed the need to ensure lasting security guarantees in the Transcaucasia by signing of a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia, on the one hand, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia, on the other.

The need for delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the state border with Georgia was also noted as a factor for strengthening security on the ground.

The Abkhaz side reiterated its readiness to resume the work of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

The participants also discussed humanitarian issues related to freedom of movement, as well as a number of other topical issues.
