On November 29, Inal Ardzinba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia held a meeting with the heads of international non-governmental organizations operating in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia. Irakli Tuzhba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Artur Gagulia, Head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations also took part in the meeting.
There were following representatives attended the meeting: International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Children’s Fund UN Women, World Vision International, Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Action Against Hunger, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), The HALO Trust and FAO of UN.
In his welcoming speech, Inal Ardzinba Foreign Minister noted that the activities carried out by international NGOs in the republic are of great importance for our state. "This is an important work to support sensitive categories of the population of our country. We appreciate this work and we will support it in every possible way. Many of you have been working in Abkhazia since the end of the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia. It was those times when our people had serious needs. They did not appear out of nowhere, but because of Georgian aggression. The work that was done by organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is very important for our people," Ardzinba said.
The minister noted the primary role of the Abkhaz Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the coordinating body for the activities carried out by organizations on the territory of the republic. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the main coordinating body, in accordance with the current legal framework, for interaction with foreign states, international organizations and representative offices of foreign non-profit organizations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs applies for registration of representative offices and carries out coordination of projects to be implemented. We propose to cooperate actively in this way," he said.
The minister expressed his hope for close cooperation with international NGOs in helping young people in Abkhazia. "We have very talented young people. Every day we find gifted children in various spheres. If you support our youth, we will be very grateful to you for this", - stressed Inal Ardzinba.
Ardzinba said that the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia would provide maximum support to the activities of the organizations. "We expect serious humanitarian results, and work in a context of apoliticism, humanism and maximum efficiency. Everything we can do, we will do, we will assist and help", - said the Minister. Representatives of international non-governmental organizations confirmed the readiness for further close cooperation.
