Irakli Tuzhba met with the representatives of the ICRC Mission in the Republic of Abkhazia

The meeting between Irakli Tuzhba, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Matthias Weinreich, the Head of the ICRC Mission in the Republic of Abkhazia took place at the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia on July 3,2020.

Matthias Vainreich, the Head of the ICRC Mission in the Republic of Abkhazia informed the Deputy Minister on the current activities of the organization, in particular, on the work of the Program for the search of missing persons.

Matthias Weinreich stressed that only local experts will be involved in the program at this time period, since now it is impossible for foreign specialists to come to the Republic of Abkhazia due to the coronavirus pandemic. He also said that the ICRC mission provided humanitarian support to the most vulnerable sections of the population, in particular the elderly as part of the fight against COVID-19.

In turn, Irakliy Tuzhba thanked the representatives of the ICRC for the work done and emphasized that cooperation on projects being implemented on the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia would continue as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia was ready to provide maximum assistance to the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The ICRC mission has been working in Abkhazia since 1992 and is implementing a range of humanitarian programs.
