Commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia drew attention to the reaction of the Georgian Foreign Ministry regarding the information that Abkhazia and South Ossetia were noted on the «TikTok» social network as the independent states. The Georgian Foreign Ministry stated that it was “working on the issue,” because the department’s top priority is “protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.”

Such an inadequate reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to the information indicated on the social network is puzzling, because it objectively reflects the real situation on the political map of the South Caucasus.

This case once again eloquently illustrates that the loud statements on the need to establish the dialogue and find ways to normalize the relations serve only as a screen to cover Georgia’s real foreign policy towards full-scale international isolation of Abkhazia. Even such an undeserving reason for wide attention as the mentioned case with the «TikTok» social network caused urgent activation of the activities of the Georgian Foreign Ministry to block “harmful” information.

Based on such flawed logic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia probably intends to censor any international information resource on which information that is "inconvenient" for Tbilisi will appear. In this connection, a logical question arises: is such a practice acceptable from the moral side and from the point of view of common sense?

Along with this, it should be noted that sometimes economic entities or organizations are much more aware of existing political realities than individual states.
We expect that in Georgia there will also be a similar realization of obvious facts, the result of which will be a revision of the political course towards the Republic of Abkhazia.
