On the Meeting with the representatives of the UNHCR office in Abkhazia

The meeting of Irakli Tuzhba, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs with Arjun Shrestha, the head of the UNHCR office in Abkhazia and Ivan Charnetski, the UNHCR legal counsel took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia on February 16, 2018.

The meeting was also attended by Artur Gaguliya, the Head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and Aida Tuzhba, the staff member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.
At the beginning of the meeting Arjun Shrestha, the head of the UNHCR office in Abkhazia, thanked Irakli Tuzhba for the support and opportunity to carry out his activities in the republic.

The representatives of UNHCR in detail told on some projects carried out by the organization in the territory of Abkhazia. In particular, it was a project to restore the destroyed bridges, rehabilitate schools in the eastern part of Abkhazia as well as provide material support to the most vulnerable segments of the population and newcomers.

In turn, Irakli Tuzhba highly appreciated the work of UNHCR in Abkhazia and also noted the importance of implementing these projects aimed at improving people's well-being, improving their living conditions and developing infrastructure.

UNHCR is a UN agency that implements programs to provide the assistance to refugees and conflict victims who are particularly vulnerable. The UNHCR office in Abkhazia has been functioning since 1993.
