The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Irakli Tuzhba met with the UNHCR Representative Kemlin Furley at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations Artur Gaguliia, the Head of the UNHCR Office in Abkhazia Arjun Shrestkha and the UNHCR Legal Adviser Maria Voloshkevich.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues related to the current activities of the UNHCR in Abkhazia.

Representatives of the UNHCR spoke in detail about some of the projects carried out by the organization on the territory of Abkhazia. In particular, they talked about projects to support farmers in the eastern part of Abkhazia, to improve the infrastructure of schools throughout Abkhazia, as well as to provide material and humanitarian support to the most vulnerable segments of the population.

Irakli Tuzhba, in turn, highly appreciated the work of the UNHCR in Abkhazia, and also noted the importance of implementing these projects aimed at improving the well-being of people, improving their living conditions and developing infrastructure.

Then an exchange of views took place on other issues of mutual interest.

UNHCR is a UN agency that implements programs to provide assistance to refugees and particularly vulnerable groups affected by the conflict. In Abkhazia, the UNHCR office has been operating since 1993
