On the meeting with Tom Trier

The meeting of Kan Taniya, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia with Tom Trier, the Political Adviser of the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia on November 2.

The meeting was also attended by the Carolina Stampfer, the representative of the European Union and the project manager, Ivona Gogoll, the EU Human Rights Coordinator as well as the staff of the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry: Asta Chukbar, the senior officer of the Information Department and Artur Gaguliya, the Head of the Department of Interaction with International Organizations.

The number of environmental issues related to the spread of the marmorate bug in the territory of Abkhazia was discussed by the parties during the meeting. Kan Taniya stressed that it is necessary to take concrete steps aimed at the reducing the marmorate bug population and avoid politicizing of this issue.

«First of all, we are focused on obtaining the result. The situation with the marmorate bug is critical it should be resolved quickly, "the Deputy Minister said.

Tom Trier stressed the need for thorough and timely work in this area as well as the need to decide the issue at the regional level in coordination with international experts.
