D. Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia met with A.A Dvinyanin, the Deputy Head of the Russian delegation at the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia on March 1, 2018.
Thorough discussion of the current situation and their prospects was held at the Geneva talks. In particular, it was stressed that the destructive line of Tbilisi on blocking the adoption in Geneva of the statement of participants on the non-use of force is the main obstacle to the successful promotion of this important multilateral format. The Georgia's desire to enter the NATO in any way aggravates the security situation in Transcaucasia and is fraught with a new round of tensions in the region. In this regard, the hope was expressed that Western partners and patrons of Tbilisi realize the perniciousness of such a course and will not condone the revanchist aspirations of the Georgian leadership.
The usefulness of the incident prevention and response mechanism (IPRM) in the Abkhaz-Georgian border area was noted in the course of the exchange of views. D.V. Kove and A.A. Dvinyanin underlined the inadmissibility of politicizing his activities by the Georgian side. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia indicated the voluntary nature of the participation of Abkhaz representatives in the work of the IPRM whose delicate balance may easily be violated by the Georgian provocations.
The Russian side supported the desire of the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia to free movement around the world with national documents and provide them with a rostrum of the international organizations in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.
The meeting was held in the traditional atmosphere of alliance, friendship and cooperation for the Abkhaz-Russian relations.
