Abkhaz parliament ratified two agreements with Syria

The Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia ratified two agreements with the Syrian Arab Republic on Thursday, December 6,2018: “Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic” and “Agreement on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic in the field of trade promotion and economic cooperation.”

Abkhazia and Syria will establish relations as friendly states based on the principles of mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, equality and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs in accordance with the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

The parties will closely cooperate in the field of foreign policy peacekeeping as well as hold periodic and regular consultations on international issues of mutual interest.

The contract is valid for ten years with the possibility of automatic renewal for a period of five years. Amendments to the text of this treaty may be made by mutual agreement.

The Parties exempt each other from customs duties on imported goods produced in these republics for a period of five years in accordance with the Agreement on Cooperation in the Sphere of Economy and Trade
The Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic announced mutual recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 29, 2018.
