On April 26, a training was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, organized by the delegation of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) in cooperation with the Council of Young Diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

“Training for unrepresented diplomats is the basic concept of activities” was conducted by Fernando Burges, the Head of the Policy and Research Division of UNPO, and Lucia Parucci, the Coordinator for UNPO Lobbying. The training was attended by students of the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of History of the ASU, members of the CYD at the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia.

The main purpose of the training was to involve future Abkhaz diplomats in teaching of competent advocacy of the interests of their state in the international arena.
“If we talk about the main activity of the organization, then it is generally based on defending of the rights of small nations and nations to self-determination,” stressed Fernando Burges.

At the end of the training, a meeting was held between the leadership of the CYD at the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia and the delegation of UNPO. The parties discussed a number of topical issues for Abkhaz youth and outlined plans for interaction.

The UNPO is an international non-governmental organization established in the Hague in 1991 whose purpose is to protect the interests of nations and indigenous peoples.
The Republic of Abkhazia has been a member of UNPO since August 6, 1991.
