The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia took part in the opening of the plaque in the memory of Dmitri and Olga Vishernevykh

On February 8, 2018, Oleg Arshba and Kan Taniya, the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia took part in the opening of the ceremony of the Memorial Plaque in the honor of Dmitry Vishernev, the First Secretary, the Vice-Consul of the Russian Embassy in Abkhazia and his wife Olga Visherneva who were killed on September 9, 2013. The opening ceremony took place at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Abkhazia.

The event was opened by Semyon Grigoriev, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Abkhazia. He said that there was a sad page in the history of the Russian Embassy despite of the fact that it worked in Abkhazia not so long.

« Dmitry Vishernev, the First Secretary, the Vice-Consul of the Embassy and his wife Olga were brutally murdered by a terrorist on the day of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Russia and Abkhazia on September 9, 2013. Their death became a very great loss for our Embassy, for the entire diplomatic service of Russia and our Abkhaz friends. Today is a great event for me, I always considered it necessary to perpetuate the memory of the Vishernevs` in the newly-built Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia, » stressed Semyon Grigoriev.

The Russian Ambassador in Abkhazia thanked the security forces of Abkhazia who had opened the crime with the assistance of their Russian counterparts.

Kan Taniya, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia also made a short greeting noting that the murder of Vishernevs` was directed against the Abkhaz-Russian interaction.

«We pay tribute to the memory of sincere, dedicated and kind people whose noble aspirations and kind-hearted actions are forever fixed in our history." The dishonest crime which claimed the lives of two remarkable people was aimed primarily at undermining fraternal relations between our states. The perpetrators of this inhuman crime will duly punished, » stressed the Deputy Minister.

The flowers were placed on the memorial plaque at the end of the event.

Dmitry Vishernev, the First Secretary, the Vice-Consul of the Russian Embassy in Abkhazia was injured in the head near the garage of his house on September 9, 2013 in Sukhum. Olga Visherneva, the wife of the diplomat was gunshot wounded during the attack. She died on September 14, 2013 in the Republican hospital. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Abkhazia confirmed in his official statement that Iskhan Sabanchiev and Yusup Lakaev, the resident of Grozny were involved in this murder.
