Comment of the MFA of the Republic of Abkhazia
21 April 2017 770
On April 19, 2017, the Committee of the Deputy Ministers of the Council of Europe considered the 15th consolidated report on the "conflict in Georgia" prepared by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, in which serious human rights violations are noted in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

It is with great regret that we must note that the Council of Europe has once again demonstrated its absolute bias in matters of objective and impartial coverage of the situation in the Republic of Abkhazia.

As before, we have to face tendentiousness and a complete lack of professionalism in preparing such reports aimed at discrediting the image of the Republic of Abkhazia. Once again, the Council of Europe, like other European structures that continue to pursue a policy of unconditional support for Georgia, demonstrated their unwillingness to fully study the situation in Abkhazia. The basis for such reports of the Council of Europe is the materials regularly published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, which are of a deliberately false nature and cannot be used as objective sources of information in any way.

We would like to draw attention to the fact that in European and international structures there is a practice when the position of the Abkhaz side is not taken into account when preparing such reports. Moreover, none of the European "experts" involved in the preparation of such documents considers it necessary to visit the Republic of Abkhazia for a more detailed study of the situation on the ground and receiving objective information. As a result of such actions of the European political nomenclature, periodically there are various reports that are populist in nature and are designed to distort the real situation in Abkhazia.

Representatives of the Council of Europe, remaining in captivity of their illusions, continue to support the thesis of the territorial integrity of Georgia, thus defending the long-standing political realities.

At the same time, the Council of Europe in its report condemns the process of dynamically developing bilateral interstate relations between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation. Representatives of the Council of Europe did not ignore the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the Republic of Abkhazia on April 18-19, 2017, giving it an extremely negative assessment.
