The Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia was amazed to learn the statement by the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, which he made in an interview with the Tbilisi TV company "Starvision". Mr. Z. Abashidze expressed his "conviction" that Russia will sooner or later withdraw recognition of Abkhazia's independence.

Of special affection are the attempts of Mr. Abashidze to try on the mantle of a prophet, and send all the Russian policy towards Abkhazia in his own direction, reversing the strategic nature of the Abkhaz-Russian partnership.

In thinking about Russia’s "right decisions" Mr. Abashidze is put in a spot by his own intuition and disregard of prevailing realities in Transcaucasia after the Georgian aggression in 2008. Frank rejection of the current situation in fact demonstrates yet smoldering hope of the Georgian side to some mythical withdrawals of recognition of Abkhazia and its blatant fear of complete loss of the ability to somehow affect the relationship with the people of Abkhazia, instead of seeking to establish a constructive dialogue.

Meanwhile, the political decision taken by Russian leadership in August 2008, after the brutal aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia, was intended to provide a reliable guarantee of security of the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and prevent the likelihood of possible military adventures of Tbilisi authorities.
