Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia
3 June 2021 1140

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia was perplexed by the statements of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of the Republic of Turkey regarding "the peaceful settlement of disputes between Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia within the framework of the territorial integrity of Georgia» made during the visit of Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia to Turkey.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia shares the commitment of the President of Turkey to a peaceful settlement of the conflict between the Republic of Abkhazia and Georgia. However, if the President Erdogan really wants to play a constructive part in the regional agenda, the Republic of Turkey should cease using biased and stereotyped statements on support for the mythical territorial integrity of Georgia.

The Republic of Abkhazia welcomes all forms of peaceful coexistence and cooperation of the countries of the Black Sea basin. At the same time, it is regrettable that instead of recognizing of the objective realities existing in our region, some regional politicians prefer to continue speculating on inappropriate stereotypes on the "territorial integrity of Georgia". We are convinced that it is inappropriate for high-level politicians to use epithets in their speeches that radically distort the objective reality in our region.

We call on all constructive regional forces to draw the attention of their Georgian partners to the need to build the equal and fair relations with the Republic of Abkhazia.
