Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia on the situation in Transnistria
27 April 2022 923

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia is extremely concerned about the growing tension around the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic.

Over the past few days, as a result of a series of sabotage and terrorist attacks, the situation in the republic has sharply escalated.

The current escalation of tension occurs against the background of open threats from high-ranking Ukrainian officials, who do not exclude the possibility of invading Transnistria to provide military support to Moldova in resolving the conflict.

Thus, the official Ukrainian authorities, together with their Moldovan counterparts, create additional tension in the region, which can escalate into an open armed conflict.

We should not forget that the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic has sufficient military potential to ensure the security of the republic.

In addition, the Operative Group of Russian Forces is stationed in Transnistria, which is also called upon to ensure peace and security in the region. In this connection, we would like to warn the "hotheads" in the leadership of Ukraine and Moldova against taking decisions that may have irreversible consequences for their initiators.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia expresses its full support for the leadership and people of Transdniestria and expresses its hope that peace and stability will be preserved in this brotherly republic.
