Abkhazia and Moscow aim at strengthening of the cooperation

Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Igor Akhba , the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation and Renat Karchaa, the Assistant to the President of Abkhazia for Strategic Communications discussed the development of bilateral cooperation of the Republic Abkhazia and the Russian capital with Sergei Cheryomin, the Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations within the framework of a meeting.

The prospects for the creation of a Working Group on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Government of Moscow were discussed during the meeting. The parties noted their mutual interest in the implementation of joint projects in various areas of the urban economy, tourism, transport, information technology, education, culture. “We understand how important it is to maintain the friendly relations with our Abkhaz partners and are ready to make every effort to move to a qualitatively new stage of trade and economic cooperation between Moscow and Abkhazia,” Sergei Cheryomin said. He also stressed that Moscow is ready to share its rich experience in the areas of urban management, the provision of public services through the MFC, the organization of housing and communal services and the improvement of the public transport system.

In turn, Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia stressed that the creation of a permanent working group between the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Government of Moscow is a timely and promising idea and expressed his readiness to sign a corresponding agreement. “Strengthening interaction in a number of promising areas is a logical step to strengthen of the traditionally warm relations between Moscow and Abkhazia,” said Daur Kove.

The parties also discussed the possible holding of the Days of Moscow in Abkhazia in the fall of 2020, if the sanitary and epidemiological situation allows.
The legal basis for cooperation between the Republic of Abkhazia and Moscow is the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Government of Moscow (Russian Federation) on cooperation in trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian-cultural areas dated of November 13, 2009. The Moscow Government pays great attention to the activities of the Cultural and Business Center "House of Moscow" in Sukhum, which was opened on November 15, 2013 within the framework of the V-th Russian-Abkhaz Business Forum.
