Daur Kove, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia met with Dmitry Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia at the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia on October 3, 2018. The meeting was also attended by Vissarion Aplia, the head of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church.

Opening the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia thanked the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia led by Anatoly Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia for participating in the celebration of the 25-th anniversary of the Victory and Independence Day of the Republic of Abkhazia.

“It is very important for us to realize that the fraternal Ossetian people are always with us. I am sure that the relations that we have had for a very long time will have a good dynamic which will be expressed in a coordinated foreign policy,” said Daur Kove.

In turn, Dmitry Medoev congratulated the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all the people of Abkhazia on the anniversary date and presented the departmental award “For contribution to international cooperation” to the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia.

The award for a great contribution to the development of bilateral relations was also presented to Vissarion Aplia, the head of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church.

The heads of the foreign affairs agencies discussed the agenda of the upcoming round of Geneva Discussions.
Daur Kove noted that for the Abkhazian and South Ossetian side the so-called Peace Initiative "Step to a better future" is categorically unacceptable.

“Not so long ago, speaking at the 73-rd session of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Georgia announced the steps that the Georgian side is taking with the respect to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, bringing to the international community the idea that they offer various benefits related with visa-free travel and free medicine. And their program, called “Step to a better future,” allegedly aimed at ensuring that the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits. For us it is categorically unacceptable that information from only one side is brought to the world community. We occasionally speak at various meetings, that representatives from the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia should be given absolutely equal rights and absolutely equal opportunities, like the Georgian side, in order to convey their position,” Daur Kove emphasized.

In this regard, the Minister urged the delegation from South Ossetia to make a joint statement at the forthcoming Geneva Discussion round, which categorically stated that it was unacceptable to bring only the Georgian side to the international community.
“This year marks the 10-th anniversary of the International Geneva Discussions and we will once again raise the issue of signing an agreement on the non-use of force. I think this site is very important to us. We will do everything to ensure that our positions and the positions of our countries are heard,” noted Dmitry Medoev.
Daur Kove expressed confidence that the participation of Dmitry Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in the upcoming round of discussions will give additional significance to this platform.
