On July 18, 2019 the Delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia arrived with a working visit to the Republic of Nicaragua to participate in the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Sandinista revolution.

The delegation headed by Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs includes employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Arthur Gagulia and Anna Gamisonia.

At the Managua airport, the Abkhaz delegation was met by L. Ortega, Special Representative of the President of Nicaragua on trade, economic and investment cooperation with Russia, A. Budayev,
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Nicaragua and I. Lara, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Legal issues.

On the same day, D. Kove met with D. Moncada, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua. During the meeting, a discussion of the state and prospects of bilateral Abkhaz-Nicaraguan cooperation was held.

The ministers exchanged views on the possibility of establishing the Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua in Abkhazia. Daur Kove expressed hope for a speedy resolution of this issue and invited a colleague to visit the Republic of Abkhazia.

In turn, D. Moncada, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua expressed a commitment to the development of bilateral relations and stressed the need for further close cooperation on key issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere.

In the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia to Nicaragua, in addition to participating in the celebrations on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Sandinista revolution, a number of meetings of Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the leadership of the Republic of Nicaragua are planned.

The Sandinista Revolution is a chain of events that ended on July 19, 1979 with the overthrow of the regime of Anastasio Somoza in Nicaragua. Since then, this day is celebrated in the republic as a public holiday.

On September 3, 2008, Nicaragua recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and a year later diplomatic relations were established between the countries.
