On March 22, the State Duma of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting of the working group on the topic “Strengthening of political and economic ties between Abkhazia and Russia” with the participation of Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia and representatives of various factions of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The meeting was attended by Kazbek Taysaev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, Yana Lantratova, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, representative of faction of the « Just Russia - For Truth» and Alexander Yushchenko, State Duma Deputy.
During the meeting, issues of a simplified regime for crossing the state Abkhazian-Russian border along the Psou River, the launch of the International Sukhumi Airport named after Vladislav Ardzinba, as well as on the holding in April of an expanded meeting of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and the State Duma Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, at which these issues will be discussed.
According to Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting it was decided to establish a Commission to discuss topical issues of Abkhazian-Russian relations.
“The main issues that we discussed boil down to the following - this is the issue of simplifying of the regime for crossing the Abkhazian-Russian border. This is a very important issue, which today is of particular relevance in connection with the emerging international situation. It is very important that Russian citizens can cross the border calmly and more actively. In addition, the issue related to the construction of the airport was discussed, where we would like to ask for support,” said Inal Ardzinba.
The head of the Foreign Ministry noted the productivity of the meeting and expressed hope for further intensification of interstate Abkhaz-Russian cooperation.
