Sergey Shamba
Sergey Mironovich Shamba was born on March 15, 1951 in Gudauta. He studied at the Sukhumi Secondary School No. 10.
In 1973, he graduated from the History Department of the Tbilisi State Pedagogical Institute. In 1975, he was drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of the USSR and served in the city of Chimkent, Kazakhstan, until 1976.
From 1976 to 1990, he worked at the Abkhaz Institute of Language, Literature and History (Institute of Humanitarian Research) as a research fellow and academic secretary. He defended his PhD thesis on the: "Coin circulation in ancient and medieval Abkhazia". He took part in numerous archaeological expeditions and excavations on the territory of Abkhazia. He was the first to monograph and publish the rich numismatic material from the 6th to the 8th centuries AD, stored in the Abkhazian State Museum.
In 1998, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Yerevan Institute of Archeology on the: "The political, socio-economic and cultural situation of ancient and medieval Abkhazia according to archeology and numismatics (6th century BC - 13th century AD)".
On June 17, 1988, he was one of 60 representatives of the Abkhazian intelligentsia who signed the "Abkhazian Letter" addressed to the Presidium of the 19th All-Union Party Conference of the CPSU, which became a manifesto and for the first time defined the specific goals of the Abkhazian national revival.
In March 1990, he was elected Chairman of the socio-political movement "Aidgylara".
He was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia.
From February 1992 to November 1996 - Chairman of the Commission on Science, Culture and Education of the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia. At the same time, from January 1993 to October 1993, he held the position of the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Abkhazia, Military Commissar.
From March 1996 to May 1997, he was appointed Chairman of the Culture Fund of the Republic of Abkhazia.
From May 1997 to June 2004 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia dated July 9, 2001, he was awarded the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
From December 15, 2004 - again Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia.
From February 2010 to September 2011 - Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia.
On July 28, 2020, he was appointed Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Reserve Colonel. He is the author of several books, numerous monographs, and publications of a scientific and political nature.
