On May 14, 2026, a meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for the Search for Persons Missing during the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia (1992-1993) was held in Istanbul, facilitated by the ICRC.

The participants outlined the progress of efforts to search for and clarify the fates of missing persons and discussed current issues related to the identification process.

The Coordination Mechanism for the Search for Persons Missing in Abkhazia in 1992-1993 was established in 2010 under the auspices of the ICRC and operates in accordance with international humanitarian law.
