The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia is organizing an international conference on the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia on August 22-23. Leading politologists and politicians from Abkhazia, Russia, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland will take part in the conference.
Foreign Minister Daur Kove: "The coming 10th anniversary of the international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia is an important milestone that allows us to sum up the most significant results, share our ideas and, of course, identify priority tasks for the near future. I expect that the forthcoming imposing international conference will serve as an excellent opportunity for these purposes."
6 round tables will be conducted at the conference:
1. The role of the First President of the Republic of Abkhazia in the formation of statehood.
2. Abkhazia in the context of contemporary threats and challenges.
3. Aspects of cultural and humanitarian cooperation of Abkhazia with the modern world.
4. Diaspora resource of the Republic of Abkhazia.
5. Interparliamentary cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy.
6. Economic, political and social aspects of cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia.
Presentation of the international movement PROAbkhazia - an informal public association that promotes dissemination of objective information about the Republic of Abkhazia will take place during the international conference.
On August 26, 2008, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, guided by the provisions of the UN Charter, the 1970 declaration on the principles of international law concerning friendly relations between states, the OSCE Helsinki Final Act of 1975, and other fundamental international documents, signed Decrees on recognition by the Russian Federation of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and independence of the republic of South Ossetia.
