On September 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Oleg Bartsits, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Galuzin, ahead of the 68th round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia (IDT).
Participating in the meeting on the Abkhazian side were Deputy Foreign Minister Odissei Bigvava, Foreign Ministry officials Lasha Avidzba and Alina Chanba, and Kan Taniia, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Russian Federation.
A delegation from the Republic of South Ossetia, led by Konstantin Kochiev, State Advisor to the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, a constructive discussion was held regarding key agenda items for the upcoming round of the IDT, scheduled for November 10–11 of this year.
The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in continuing a constructive dialogue and joint efforts aimed at achieving established goals regarding security and stability in the region
The need to develop legally binding guarantees regarding the non-use of force by Georgia against the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia was emphasised.
The Abkhazian side reiterated its readiness to discuss the functioning of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).
During the meeting, the participants addressed a number of humanitarian issues and exchanged views on other topical matters of mutual interest.
