During a working visit to the Russian Federation, Oleg Bartsits, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia met with Alba Azucena Torres Mejia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation and concurrently to the Republic of Abkhazia.
The talks took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in Moscow and focused on deepening of the bilateral strategic partnership.
Also participating in the meeting were Odissey Bigvava, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alkhas Kvitsinia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation, Lasha Avidzba, Head of the Consular Department and Saria Dzhopua, Head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations.
Oleg Bartsits expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between the countries.
"We are very pleased with the development of our cooperation. Our ties are based on genuine partnership and long-standing human relations. We are completely satisfied with the volume and quality of our dialogue," the Minister stated.
He expressed special gratitude to the Nicaraguan side for the visit of Ambassador Alba Azucena Torres Mejia to the inauguration of Badra Gunba the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.
"I recall with great warmth our visit to Managua in the summer of 2025 for the celebration of the anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, where we were personally received by the Co-President of Nicaragua, Comandante Daniel Ortega Saavedra, and Co-President Rosario Murillo," he noted.
The Minister also emphasized the important role of Laureano Ortega, Advisor to the President of Nicaragua for the Promotion of Investment, Trade, and International
Cooperation in developing of relations between the two countries and implementing of practical steps to strengthen them.
Oleg Bartsits noted the successful development of practical cooperation. "Businessmen from our countries are signing contracts, and the first important steps have been taken in the cultural sphere. "We were all delighted by Katerin Velasquez, the lead soloist of Incanto (Nicaraguan Vocal Institute) and participant in the 4-th Alisa Gitsba International Music Laboratory Competition, who captivated the hearts of the Abkhazian audience and won one of the competition's main prizes," the Minister noted.
"It is extremely important for us that contacts are being established not only at the political level, but also between cultural representatives," added Oleg Bartsits.
For her part, Ambassador Alba Azucena Torres Mejía reaffirmed Managua's continued commitment to developing relations with Abkhazia and thanked her for the warm welcome.
"Nicaragua views Abkhazia as a fraternal country sharing common values of sovereignty and justice. We are interested in even more frequent contacts in all areas," the diplomat stated.
As a concrete initiative, the Ambassador proposed organizing a "Nicaragua Day in Abkhazia" in the near future. The event may include:
• A display of traditional Nicaraguan dresses;
• A tasting of Nicaraguan coffee and cuisine;
• A photo exhibition dedicated to the country's nature and culture.
"Such a cultural bridge will allow our peoples to get to know each other better and will become a vibrant symbol of our friendship," the Ambassador added.
"The Government of Nicaragua considers Abkhazia a fraternal country and an important partner. We officially invite representatives of Abkhazia to all important national events, holidays, and official ceremonies in Nicaragua. Your presence will be an honor for us and another step towards strengthening of our unity," the Ambassador stated.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to soon exchange views on specific steps for the implementation of new projects, including cultural exchanges and economic initiatives.
The talks confirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen the allied relations between Sukhum and Managua.
