The Syrian Arab Republic recognized the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia on May 29, 2018.

Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia congratulated Dmitry Medoyev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the Day of the adoption of the Act on the Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia drew attention to the speech of Georgi Margvelashvili, the Georgian President on May 26 this year on the occasion of the celebration of the day of Georgia's independence. Congratulating, in particular, "Abkhaz compatriots", Margvelashvili stated that "in 1991, in a referendum we together said that Georgia was an independent country".

On May 25, 2018 in preparation to the upcoming 44-th round of the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, Daur Kove, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia held a regular meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva discussions as part of the Toivo Claar, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Günter Behler, Special Representative for the South Caucasus from German presidency in the OSCE, Hilo Mamo , the UN special representative at the international Geneva discussions and  Bern Kuen, political adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus.

The leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument of the victims of the Caucasian War on the embankment of the Mahajirs in Sukhum.

Alan Elbakiev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Republic of South Ossetia took part in the farewell ceremony with Oleg Mamiev, the battalion commander Pyatnashki which was held in Vladikavkaz.

On May 15, Zaur Gvajava, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela met with Joseph Knoxie, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at the Embassy of Abkhazia in Venezuela.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia sent a note of condolence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the occasion of the anniversary of the Zara tragedy.
