On October 30, 2024, a meeting was held between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Syrian Arab Republic Muhammad Ali and the Vice President of Syria Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad.
During the meeting, the prospects for expanding Abkhaz-Syrian cooperation were discussed, including mechanisms for activating the agreements signed between the two countries.
Muhammad Ali expressed gratitude for Syria's support for Abkhazia in the international arena, noting Syria's vote against the UN General Assembly resolution of June 4, 2024 on "The situation of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia and South Ossetia".
He noted that the leadership of Abkhazia supports the Syrian government’s course in the international arena, in the fight against terrorist organizations remaining in the country that have support from abroad, Syria's position on the withdrawal of forces illegally located on Syrian territory, as well as the need to lift sanctions and the economic blockade.
Syrian Vice President Faisal Al-Miqdad said that Syrian-Abkhazian relations are constantly developing at various levels in accordance with the instructions of the Presidents of both countries - Syrian President Dr. Bashar Al-Assad and Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania.
He noted that the ties between the peoples of the two countries are rooted in history and are based on strong principles that reject hegemonic policies, do not accept interference in the internal affairs of countries and encroachment on their sovereignty.
