On June 26, 2019, the second day of the 64th round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasia (IDT) was held at the Palais de Nations.
The discussions were attended by representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of South Ossetia, the Republic of Georgia, as well as the Russian Federation and the United States, co-chaired by the UN, OSCE and the EU.
The delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia, headed by Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Bigvava O.M., included officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Lasha Avidzba, Artur Gaguliia, Alisa Barzaniia and Madina Zukhba.
As always, the discussions were held in the main group on security and in the second group on humanitarian issues.
As part of the work of the security group, all parties emphasized the importance of the existing negotiation format and the need to continue it to maintain security and stability in the region. Within the second item of the agenda of the first working group, the participants noted the continuing stability on the Abkhazian-Georgian border.
The Abkhazian side once again emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to conclude a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between the Republic of Abkhazia and Georgia.
As part of the work of the second working group, issues related to freedom of movement, education, as well as a number of other pressing humanitarian issues were traditionally discussed.
Representatives of Abkhazian and South Ossetian sides stated that the issue of the return of refugees cannot be the subject of dialogue as long as its consideration in the UN General Assembly is carried out without taking into account the opinions of both parties.
The next 65th round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasia is scheduled for November 2025.
