The Deputy Foreign Minister Kan Tania held a meeting with Co-moderators and participants of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia from the UN, EU and OSCE - Hailu Mamo, Thorsten Ahren, Armin Riser, Emmanuel Anketil, Frank Remus, Abdukakhor Nurov and Charles Lonsdale.
The Abkhaz side was presented by the staff of the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry, participants of the Geneva discussions Lasha Avidzba, Artur Gaguliya, Timur Shanava and Asta Chukbar.
The sides discussed in detail the agenda for the upcoming 39th round, in particular, the draft of the joint declaration of commitment to the non-use of force, which would serve as an important step towards the signing of a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia and Abkhazia and Georgia and South Ossetia as the main objective of the Geneva Discussions.
Regarding the working group one of the security issues the point was about the closure of the two checkpoints on the state border with Georgia, as well as a number of statements on this issue from the EU, the UN, the OSCE and NATO. The politicized quarterly reports of the Georgian Foreign Ministry on human rights situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the problems connected with the international isolation of the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia and the issue of intensifying the military partnership between Georgia and NATO were also discussed.
Concerning the work of the second group, a number of issues of regional environmental security were discussed, among which, in particular, the fight with the boxwood moth and the marmorate bug. In addition, the issues related to the legal status of residents of the Gal district of the Republic of Abkhazia and, in particular, the Law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Republic of Abkhazia", were touched upon.
The next 39th round of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia is scheduled for March 28-29, 2017.
