On March 28, 2024, the Russian Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Iraklii Tuzhba, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Galuzin.
From the Abkhazian side, the meeting was also attended by the head of the Consular Department Lasha Avidzba and the head of the Middle East and Africa Department Artur Gaguliia.
During the working meeting on the eve of the 60th round of the Geneva International Discussions on security and stability in the Transcaucasus, the participants discussed the most pressing issues on the agenda.
As part of the consultations, the need to ensure strong security guarantees in the Transcaucasus was reaffirmed by signing a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia, on the one hand, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia, on the other.
It was noted that the situation in the Gal region and on the Abkhazian-Georgian state border remains stable and calm. At the same time, the need to create conditions for the delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the state border with Georgia was emphasized.
The Abkhazian side once again expressed its commitment to resuming the work of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), however, as a result of the destructive position of the Georgian participants, the work of this format remains frozen.
The meeting participants also discussed a number of other issues on the agenda of the upcoming 60th round, which is scheduled for April 4-5, 2024.
