On August 19, 2025, a meeting of the Security Council members was held at the UN headquarters dedicated to the events of 2008. Following the meeting, some representatives of Western countries issued a joint statement in support of Georgia's territorial integrity and condemned the presence of Russian military bases in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
It should be noted that such joint statements by Western representatives in support of Georgia have become traditional and have nothing to do with objective reality. These documents are openly anti-Russian in nature and are aimed at maintaining permanent tension in our region.
It is noteworthy that for the first time in 17 years, US representatives refused to support the joint statement.
This precedent suggests that the new US administration may reconsider its attitude towards the unconditional support for Georgia, which is typical for the representatives of the Democratic Party, and quit anti-Russian rhetoric in favor of establishing a dialogue and gradually restoring the broken links.
In fact, for the first time, official Washington has rejected a document supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia and condemning Russia's military presence in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This is a fairly indicative step, demonstrating significant changes in the approaches of the new US authorities, focused on a more pragmatic policy, which involves normalizing relations with Russia.
Let's hope that the current precedent will also reflect the changing views of the US political leadership regarding Georgia's unreasonable territorial claims.
