September 17, 2024 16 years is marked since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation.
The Treaty signed in 2008 became a solid foundation of the legal framework, on the basis of which hundreds of documents were signed in all areas of Abkhaz-Russian cooperation. The Treaty laid the foundation for a long-term strategic alliance in politics, economics, energy, transport, military-technical cooperation, science, culture, education, information and healthcare. It created the necessary basis for the formation of mechanisms for effective bilateral interaction and made it possible to advance in the settlement of many issues in bilateral relations, and to bring the relationship between the two countries to a new level.
This fundamental document played an important role in strengthening of peace and stability in the region, becoming a reliable barrier to aggressive plans to change the finally formed historical realities.
Today, we can say with confidence that Abkhaz-Russian interstate relations continue to develop in the spirit of a strategic alliance, playing a significant role in strengthening of mutual trust, stability and security.
