For the leadership of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the priority area of foreign policy is promoting of international recognition of Abkhazia as an independent state, as well as the recognition of documents issued by the state bodies of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In accordance with the foreign policy course determined by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consistently and continuously works to expand Abkhazia's international contacts, strengthen its foreign policy position, and overcome the international isolation caused by Georgia's policies. The Russian Federation provides the Republic of Abkhazia with the necessary support in advancing its foreign policy interests.
For many years, the Abkhaz side has raised the issue of recognition of Abkhaz passports and other documents issued by Abkhaz state authorities at the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia is closely monitoring the developments surrounding the initiative of a group of members of the Turkish Parliament who proposed recognizing Abkhaz passports and opening of sea links with Abkhazia. We view the emergence of such discussions as an objective process, driven not by momentary considerations, but by an awareness of the real needs of people who find themselves in difficult circumstances. This is the result of persistent and systematic efforts to implement a set of measures aimed at de-isolation of the Republic of Abkhazia by our country's leadership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of civil society, the Plenipotentiary Representation of the Republic of Abkhazia in Turkey, the Federation of Abkhaz Cultural Centers in Turkey, the Federation of Caucasian Associations, and many concerned members of the Abkhaz diaspora around the world. We believe that fair solutions in this case are self-evident—they lie in the restoration of basic human rights. For us, recognition of our state's documents is part of a crucial task: achieving of broader international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and establishing full economic, humanitarian, and cultural ties with other states. Therefore, we view any steps that contribute to achieving of this goal as entirely positive.
The leadership of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue this work. Today, we maintain a constant and active dialogue with representatives of various states and public forces in various regions of the world, consistently expand international contacts, and advance Abkhazia's position on issues of international recognition and the development of direct ties with other countries.
