The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia was appalled by the appeal of the Football Federation of Georgia to FIFA with a demand to condemn the holding of a football match between the youth teams of Nigeria and Abkhazia.
This and many other cases confirm that the policy of Georgia towards Abkhazia has not changed and is still based on outdated stereotypes and the desire to isolate Abkhazia from the outside world.
The maniacal desire of the Georgian side to restrict by any means the participation of Abkhaz athletes in international competitions testifies to the continuation of the policy of isolation and in practice proves what the statements of Georgian politicians are about the commitment to constructive dialogue and openness.
The Abkhaz side calls on the FIFA Ethics Committee to assess the actions of the Georgian side and to clarify whether the activities of the GFF, which amounts to "using all means to prevent sports actions directed against Georgian statehood and territorial integrity," are key concepts on the non-interference of the football policy. We are convinced that despite on the attempts of the Football Federation of Georgia to impart a political connotation to the holding of sporting events, FIFA will continue the course aimed at comprehensive support and development of football.
The Abkhaz Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands to stop the systematic violation by the Georgian side of the principle of the non-interference of politics in sports and strongly condemns Georgia's continued attempts to maximize Abkhazia's isolation from contacts with the outside world.
