We have taken the note of Georgian Prime Minister I. Garibashvili's statement regarding the delimitation and demarcation of the border. According to Garibashvili, Georgian authorities must complete the delimitation and demarcation of the border but with the Russian Federation. "And this, of course, will take place within the borders of a united Georgia," he said.
It is difficult to call the position expressed by I. Garibashvili on such an important state issue adequate. We can endlessly pretend that there is still a "united Georgia", but we can hardly seriously believe that this attitude will change the current state of affairs in the region.
The Prime Minister of Georgia should be reminded that the Abkhaz side has already appealed to the Georgian side to start substantive work on the process of delimitation of the state border between Abkhazia and Georgia and its subsequent demarcation. In particular, Georgia was invited to set up a relevant commission and determine the composition of its members. A commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the State border with Georgia is in the process of being formed in the Republic of Abkhazia. We expect an adequate response from the Georgian side to our proposal. We trust that the Georgian side will not drag out the process of forming a similar commission. After that, the sides will be able to start working together.
We urge the Georgian authorities to take this issue seriously. Otherwise, the process of delimitation and demarcation of the state border will be carried out unilaterally.
