In connection with the Izvestia article citing a commentary by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated December 3, 2025, we consider it necessary to clarify the position of the Republic of Abkhazia on a number of issues raised.

The position of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs objectively reflects the current situation. Tbilisi's preliminary demand that the Russian Federation renounce its recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia as a sovereign and independent state deprives the dialogue of a constructive basis. Russia's recognition of Abkhazia's sovereignty in 2008 is a legal and political fact, which considers the historical context and the will of the Abkhazian people. The status of the Republic of Abkhazia is not subject to negotiation.

The main obstacle to normalizing the situation remains Georgia's policy aimed at isolating Abkhazia internationally and blocking any interaction.

Despite political difficulties, the region possesses potential for pragmatic cooperation in the interests of its people. This is evidenced by the significantly increasing trade turnover between Russia and Georgia, the increase in cargo flows through the region's key transport and logistics corridors, and the continued existence of air travel, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

The Republic of Abkhazia, as a sovereign state, advocates for stability and is open to practical dialogue on a wide range of issues, including security and humanitarian matters. Such dialogue is only possible given the existing political and legal realities. Strategic partnership with the Russian Federation is the foundation of stability and development for Abkhazia and the region as a whole.

The Georgian side must take a constructive approach, abandon ultimatums, and end its policy of blocking dialogue to normalise relations.
