On October 6, Damascus hosted the grand opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Syrian Arab Republic. The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Walid al Muallem, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Ayman Susan, Ambassadors of the Russian Federation, Venezuela accredited to the Syrian Arab Republic and Cuba.
Opening the event, the Ambassador of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Syrian Arab Republic Bagrat Khutaba noted the rich long-term history of relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Abkhazia: "Our Diaspora in Syria has participated for centuries in the development of the Syrian Arab state and in ensuring the defense and security of the country. Thanks to our common efforts, we will continue to support and develop these relations," the Ambassador stressed.
In his welcoming speech, the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Abkhazia Alkhas Kvitsinia noted: "On July 29, 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Syrian Arab Republic was established, which became a historic event and an important step in the development of relations between the two states. We highly appreciate this step by the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic and are confident that our relations will develop in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation."

"It is important to emphasize that the Republic of Abkhazia for the Syrian Arab Republic is a bridge that opens up prospects for cooperation with other countries," said Abkhazian Foreign Minister Daur Kove. "Today we can say that diplomatic relations have been officially established between our countries, and I am sure that these relations will develop not only in the political plane, but also in all other directions," the Minister stressed.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Walid al Muallem, welcomed the Delegation from the Republic of Abkhazia and congratulated on the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the SAR.
