On March 29, the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Vito Grittani visited the Mayor of Trieste Roberto Di Piazza.

During the meeting, Mr. Grittani conveyed best wishes from the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba and invited Mr. Di Piazza to visit Sukhum. Vito Grittani expressed hope that Mayor of Di Piazza will be able to accept the invitation and come as soon as possible to get to know Abkhazia better.

The Abkhazian diplomat presented the "Cross of Peace" project to the Mayor and those present. "The cross," Grittani said, "will soon travel from Trieste to Russia as a sign of peace and friendship for the entire planet."

The wooden cross was blessed on March 28 by Father Luigi of the Sanctuary of Monte Gissa in the presence of Trieste Municipal Councilor Salvatore Porro.

The meeting between Mr. Grittani and Mr. Di Piazza was organized by Trieste Municipal Councilor Ugo Rossi and the President of the OLT-Osservatorio Libero Trieste Giorgio Deski.

Ugo Rossi and Giorgio Deski were observers at the 2025 elections for the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.
