On October 9, 2019, Odyssey Bigvava, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia held a meeting with Cihan Sultanoglu, the Co-Chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the Caucasus - UN Viorel Mosanu, Co-Chair OSCE Co-Chair and Gottfried Hanne, Political Advisor to the EU Co-Chair.
The meeting was attended by Martin Tarkil, the Head of the Staff of the MFA of Abkhazia, Artur Gagulia, Head of the Department of the Middle East and Africa of the MFA of Abkhazia, Lasha Avidzba, Head of the Consular Department and Kan Taniia, Ambassador-at-Large from the Abkhaz side.
At the beginning of the meeting, Odyssey Bigvava noted that Abkhazia is closely monitoring both the situation in the region and the processes taking place in other regions, in particular in the Middle East. He also drew attention to reports of possible deliveries of long-range missiles by the West to Ukraine. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that Abkhazia, as an ally of Russia is concerned about such a statement, noted that this can only aggravate the conflict. The key topic of the consultations was the discussion of the agenda of the upcoming 62-nd round of the International Geneva Discussions and current issues of regional security.
Odyssey Bigvava stressed the need to agree on and sign a document on the non-use of force between the Republic of Abkhazia and Georgia, which is a key task of the Geneva Discussions.
The meeting participants focused on the need to resume the work of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gal.
Viorel Mosanu, OSCE Co-Chair stressed that all participants in the IGD have a common goal - to make the meeting in Geneva as productive as possible.
The Co-Chairs expressed their commitment and readiness to hold the next round of the International Geneva Discussions.
The 62-nd round of the Discussions is scheduled for November 5-6, 2024.
