The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia sent a note of condolences to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the beginning of Georgia's armed aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia.

The note says, in particular:

"The date of August 8, 2008 will forever remain one of the most tragic in the modern history of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The courageous South Ossetian people, who stood up in unison to defend their homeland, thanks to their heroism and the assistance of the Russian Federation, broke the Georgian aggressor who started a criminal war.

On this mournful day, the people of the Republic of Abkhazia honor the memory of the defenders who fell in battle and the civilians of the Republic of South Ossetia who became victims of aggression."
