We drew attention to the next Resolution of the UN General Assembly - “The situation of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia and South Ossetia”, adopted on June 4, 2024, which recognizes the right of all internally displaced persons and refugees to return home.

The most serious disappointment is the fact that this resolution is adopted every year without taking into account the opinion and position of the Abkhaz side on this issue. As you know, for many years, representatives of the  Republic of Abkhazia, including within the framework of the International Geneva Discussions, have been trying to achieve the opportunity to present their own position on the issue of refugees to the participants of the UN General Assembly. Unfortunately, all demands of the Abkhaz side to ensure equal conditions for all interested parties are completely ignored.

This document, which is annually submitted to a vote of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Georgia, is openly biased, formed without taking into account the opinions of all parties and does not reflect the real situation in our region.

It becomes obvious that the so-called international community, through its unilateral actions, demonstrates a complete unwillingness to take into account the position of the Republic of Abkhazia on this issue.

We call on the UN Secretary-General to finally show political will and ensure the possibility of participation of representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia in the work of relevant UN committees.

Representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia have every right to convey their position to the international community, which is in accordance with the spirit of the UN Charter and basic democratic principles.

We also call on the Georgian side to abandon the vicious practice of promoting this resolution on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and begin a full-fledged dialogue within the framework of the only existing international format - the International Geneva Discussions on Stability and Security in the Transcaucasus.
