August 14 in the Republic of Abkhazia is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of the Fatherland.

Today marks 32 years since the beginning of the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993.

The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the Memorial to those perished in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993 in the Park of Glory in Sukhum.

On August 14, 1992, the troops of the State Council of Georgia invaded Abkhazia, and the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993 began. The war, which lasted 413 days, ended with the victory of the people of the Republic of Abkhazia on September 30, 1993.
