Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Bartsits took part in a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to volunteers in Gudauta. 

Volunteer Day is dedicated to the volunteers who came to the aid of Apsny during the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia in 1992-1993 from the republics of the North Caucasus, the South of Russia, other regions of the Russian Federation, as well as from other countries. 

The first group of volunteers from the North Caucasus, led by the chairman of the self-defense committee of the Confederation of Mountain Peoples of the Caucasus, Sultan Sosnaliev, arrived in Gudauta on the second day of the war, August 15, 1992. 

More than 2,300 volunteers took part in the fighting, more than 290 of them perished defending Abkhazia.
