On September 28, 2026, a meeting took place between Oleg Bartsits, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, and Manuel Oquendo, the President of the International Domino Federation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Also participating in the meeting were Magi Cruz, President of the USA Domino Federation; Teimuraz Lakerbaya, President of the Domino Federation of the Republic of Abkhazia; Lasha Avidzba, Head of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry; Madina Zukhba, Head of the Department for Latin America, Asia, and the Asia-Pacific Region; and Sariya Jopua, Head of the Department for Cooperation with International Organizations.
During the meeting, the parties discussed preparations for and the hosting of the World Team Domino Championship scheduled to take place in the Republic of Abkhazia in 2027.
Particular attention was paid to the organizational aspects of the upcoming of international sporting event, cooperation between the International Domino Federation and the Domino Federation of the Republic of Abkhazia and further coordination between the parties as they prepare for the championship.
Oleg Bartsits emphasized the Abkhaz side's readiness to provide the necessary assistance in organizing and hosting of the championship.
"The Abkhaz side is ready to take all necessary measures to ensure that such a major sporting event takes place in the Republic of Abkhazia. We are prepared to welcome the participants of the international championship and provide the necessary conditions for holding it," the Minister noted.
For his part, Manuel Oquendo highlighted the Republic of Abkhazia's great potential as a venue for an international sporting event and expressed confidence in the project's successful implementation.
"We have no doubt that the World Championship in the Republic of Abkhazia will be held at the highest level. This location is ideally suited for such a championship. There are a number of organizational issues to address, which requires maintaining constant communication and coordination among all parties," stated Manuel Oquendo. Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness for continued cooperation and regular coordination in preparation for the World Team Domino Championship to be held in the Republic of Abkhazia in 2027.
