The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia welcomes the decision of the International Domino Federation to hold the 2027 World Domino Championship in the Republic of Abkhazia.
We assume that international sports events serve as an important tool for humanitarian engagement, the strengthening of friendly ties between peoples, and the development of international cooperation. The Republic of Abkhazia advocates for open and non-politicized international sports cooperation and welcomes the participation of representatives from various countries in sports events held within its territory. Sport should remain free from political agendas. However, Georgia repeatedly attempts to politicize the participation of Abkhazian athletes in international events. We consider such approaches to be contrary to the spirit of international sports cooperation and the principles of humanitarian engagement.
The decision to host the 2027 World Domino Championship in the Republic of Abkhazia was unanimously adopted by the General Assembly of the International Domino Federation on October 8, 2026.
During the 2026 World Domino Championship currently taking place in Spain, a video presentation about the Republic of Abkhazia was shown to the competitors, and a ceremony was held in which Spain handed over the International Domino Federation flag to the Domino Federation of the Republic of Abkhazia, the host of the next championship. Earlier, in September 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Oleg Bartsits, met with the President of the International Domino Federation, Manuel Oquendo. During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues regarding the preparation and hosting of the upcoming World Championship, as well as prospects for strengthening international cooperation and promoting the sport of dominoes.
