On April 25, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia hosted the exchange of instruments of ratification and signing of the Protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship, signed in Moscow on September 27, 2022, ratified by the People's Assembly - Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia on December 30, 2022 and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on July 10, 2023.

The document was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Bartsits and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Abkhazia Mikhail Shurgalin.

The agreement shall enter into force on the day of the exchange of instruments of ratification, April 25, 2025.
