On August 27, 2026, a meeting was held between Odyssey Bigvava, Acting Minister and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia and Alba Azucena Torres Mejia, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia concurrently and Minister-Adviser to the President of the Republic of Nicaragua for Foreign Policy and International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

The meeting was also attended by Madina Zukhba, Head of the Department of Latin America, Asia, and the Asia-Pacific Region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia; Saria Dzhopua, Head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations; Dianes Gisel Melendez Castro, Counselor for Education, Tourism, and Culture at the Embassy of Nicaragua in Russia; and Alias ​​Khashba, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Nicaragua in the Republic of Abkhazia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the main areas of Abkhaz-Nicaraguan cooperation, focusing on practical steps to further strengthen of bilateral relations in various areas, including culture.

Dians Gisel Meléndez Castro noted that cultural relations must be promoted, as culture is the heart of the nation.

Ambassador Alba Azucena Torres Mejía invited representatives of the Abkhazian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the upcoming festival in honor of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua, which will be held in Moscow in July 2027.

They also exchanged views on current international issues.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged commemorative gifts.

Alba Azucena Torres Mejía arrived in the Republic of Abkhazia to participate in events dedicated to the 18-th anniversary of the international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.
