Today, August 14, marked 33 years since the beginning of the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993. The leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia took part in the flowers laying ceremony at the Memorial to those killed in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993 in the Park of Glory in Sukhum.

On August 14, 1992, the troops of the State Council of Georgia treacherously invaded the territory of Abkhazia. On the same day, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba made an address on Abkhazian TV and appealed to the people to stand up for the defense of the Motherland.

The plan for the occupation of Abkhazia, codenamed "Sword", was implemented two weeks after Georgia was admitted to the UN.

The Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia, which lasted 413 days, ended with the victory of the people of Abkhazia on September 30, 1993.

On August 14, in all towns and regions of Abkhazia, wreaths and flowers are laid at the monuments and graves of those perished in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia in 1992-93.

The brave sons and daughters of Apsny, the volunteer soldiers who did not return from the battlefields, will forever remain in the memory of descendants.
