As part of the international cultural and educational festival "The Path of Friendship" the Days of Nizhny Novgorod are taking place in Sukhum.

The extensive program includes educational, cultural, and sports events.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia laid the foundations for cooperation between Sukhum and Nizhny Novgorod in 2011 and maintains it at the proper level.

The cooperation agreement between Sukhum and Nizhny Novgorod was signed on December 19, 2011.
