As it became known, on April 24 this year the Georgian Ambassador to Israel met with the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilus III and discussed issues related to the visit of pilgrims from Abkhazia, who visit the Holy Land every year on the eve of Easter.

Another resentment of Georgian diplomacy was caused by the fact that the Patriarch of Jerusalem received pilgrims from Abkhazia in his residence and promised to pray for Abkhazia and all its residents.

It is well known that over the past years the main efforts of Georgian politics and diplomacy are aimed at international isolation of the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia, which is a gross violation of all existing international norms in the field of human rights protection. Georgia, supported by its Western partners, creates serious obstacles to the free movement, cultural, humanitarian and sporting interaction of our citizens with representatives of other countries.

Apparently, the absurdity of the Georgian policy towards the Republic of Abkhazia reached its apogee and led to the addition of religious questions to the general list of bans on freedom of movement and international humanitarian communication. According to Georgian politicians, believers from Abkhazia do not have the right to manifest their religious feelings and to make pilgrimage to holy places without the knowledge and approval from Tbilisi. This discriminatory position of official Tbilisi is yet another vivid confirmation of the aggressive nature of the Georgian policy pursued for many decades against Abkhazia and its citizens.

In this regard, we would like to draw the attention of the Co-Chairs of the Geneva discussions, official representatives of the EU countries and other international organizations acting as permanent apologists for the anti-human policy of Georgia to the need for immediate measures to prevent the further implementation of such international practice against the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia.
